Upgrade Windows 8 to 8.1

Way back when I purchased a Win 8 download for $35 which I successfully upgraded to 8.1. I decided to to restore my hard drive starting with my original OS, (Win 7) since being told that win 7 will no longer be supported next year.

I got as far as Windows 8, and have been completely unable to upgrade to Win 8.1 - even with all the applicable updates, including the ones that failed (for no apparent reason), causing my OS to revert back to it's state before installation.

Through it all, I've tried nearly everything suggested by your so-called "experts" (except checking the air in my bikes' tires).

To wit:

You say to use a disc - Win 8 doesn't recognize an optical drive.

You say to use ethernet instead of WiFi - I don't have access to ethernet.

I have downloaded 3 different 8.1 updates of different file sizes - all failed.

I've worked with computers from Commodore 128 to Windows 3.1; 98; XP; Vista; 7 and now 8. Nowhere have I suffered so much torment at the hands of Microsoft than in this case.

I also learned that in computers, when something goes wrong, there's anywhere from 100 to a thousand different causes - all different, and whatever advice is given is solely dependent on the information presented. In other words, Garbage In - Garbage Out.

I've just about resigned myself to the fact that I'll never get any higher than Win8 - and I'll go to Apple before I'll EVER upgrade to Windows 10.

I'd like to say more - but it's more related to your collective intelligence and ancestry, and you're just not worth it.
