Hello Everyone,
I have a windows 2008 domain controller migration to Windows 2016 domain to perform. For example i have DC1,DC2 & DC3 that are windows 2008 DC but would like to migrate them to Win2016 but without changing the name of the servers.
How would you go about it?
The reason i need to stick with the name is because of application that gives reference to those server for LDAPS authentication. My dev team wont me to keep the name to those server.
what I have in mind:
Option 1:
Bring 3 new servers with win2016. Promote them to domain controllers and demote DC1, Dc2 and Dc3. When all is done, create DNS entries (alias) with the old name that point to new server.
Option 2:
Create 3 new servers call DC11, DC12 & DC13. Demote DC1 and decommission it. Then rename Dc11 to Dc1 and promote it. Do the same things with the other one.
These option may all sound crazy but feel free to suggest me a best practice path to avoid complexity.
thx
