Firmware update on Lifecam keeps asking to plug the device into USB port when it already is

I just installed my old Lifecam VX-5000 onto my work PC. The latest software installed just fine. When I try to install the firmware, it asks to make sure it is plugged into an USB port. IT already is or else I wouldn't know it was working. What's up?
