Automatic Repair Loop

Hello, a week ago I found an old Dell laptop of mine that runs Windows 8. I wanted to still use it, so I downloaded a couple game/apps, nothing big. Everything was working fine until a few days ago. I remember shutting the laptop off while it was updating something (I'm unsure if this is why this happened or if it was something else that I can't remember) then returning an hour later. When I turned it on, the moniter showed the dell logo with automatic repair on the bottom. After 5 seconds or so, the screen goes black and it stays that way. I spent all night looking at videos and reading forums, but my situation is different. I want to keep all my files/downloads,(unless thats impossible) so people say in order to fix the problem and keep your downloads you have to press F8 or F11 before the logo pops up. However, F8 doesnt work peroid (whether that be spamming it or holding it down) and when I press F11, it says please wait then the screen goes blank infinintly. The whole burning Windows on a USB drive looks too complicated, but if I must resort to something like this, please let me know. Help me and thanks.
