Questions about activating Office 2010 which works but I keep getting the wizard saying this copy of Microsoft office is not activated. I bought the computer new from a guy on ebay in 2013. Here is how it was advertised:14" Dell Latitude E5420 i3-2310M 2.1GHz 4GB 250GB DVD Win 7 Office 2010 #321050368580.

After I got the computer and told him this problem He sent me a computer address/link to his personal files which had to be downloaded it contained a folder with the key, dotnet4.0 application and Microsoft office 2010 professional setup application.

I told him, for office 2010, when I bring it up under all programs, one choice is checked as "I already purchased Office 2010" and a box says "Activate". Do I hit the activate button? He replied,Looks like you have both Office 2010 Starter and Office 2010 Professional on there. If you goto "control panel" then "uninstall programs". You should see two versions of office 2010. YOu will need to delete "office 2010". DO NOT DELETE BOTH ! DO NOT DELETE "Office 2010 Professional".Once you have done that, goto your "start" button, click on all programs, then you will see a folder called "Office 2010 Professional" pick any of the applications, and thats it.

So under start_ programs, I do have Microsoft office and when i expand , it has everything, power-point, word, excel, etc.,everything but i get the red ribbon (product not activated). The funny part is office seems to function normal, I even have paint and it all works! So I want to get rid of the not activated bug.

Now the seller sent this: Hi there, i would suggest trying to uninstall office 2010, and downloading it from my private website Ill give you access to... here is the link below. You will need a high speed connection, since the total file is over 1GB. SugarSync

So I downloaded it and everything is there it contained a folder with the key, dotnet4.0 application and Microsoft office 2010 professional setup application and directions. The directions read:

1. install DotNet 4.0 Client

2. install Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Setup.exe

3. Open the Key.txt (this holds the key for Office, copy and paste this code when Office asks for it)

4. Microsoft Office 2010 Toolkit (once the toolkit comes up, you'll see a green button, click it)

4a A popup will come up, check both boxes, and click continue

5. wait 2-3 mins while office installs, and says its successful.

So my big concern is I am afraid if i uninstall the office program that is working and try to reinstall with his new setup, I may have nothing or it might be worse. Now i do have the windows 7 professional SP1 re- installation dvd that came with the new computer, but I wonder if it has the office 2010 professional on it,it is from 2011.

ANY ADVICE would really be appreciated.
