Does anyone know how to bring these back to normal health?
I've been running Hyper-V core 2012 servers the last five years, and they have been ROCK SOLID, never any issues. Recently began the process of retiring the hardware, and have installed Hyper-V Core 2016 on the new hardware. Windows update worked fine on them last month. Sadly, windows recommended updates are now HANGING ( running overnight, can't complete!!) . I believe it was the latest servicing stack, and security rollup for dec 2019 that is stuck.
It seems that the only well-documented-online cure is to use CMupdateReset.exe tool, but that is not included with the installation of server core ( the indicated location folders do not exist in our core installations...) Not sure what is the magic bullet now! Clean install is possible, but it seems like that is not a permanent solution to the 2016 server update woes. And of course this is bad timing - supposed to be going live with these hypervisors NEXT WEEK...
