Laptop DVD Drive will not close!!

So many many months ago my DVD drive stopped working..

It just did not open no matter how many times I pressed the button on the side. It also never opened when right clicking and selecting Eject on the D: DVD drive option in Devices & Drives.

But a few days ago, I searched online and found that u can manually open the drive by inserting a paper clip in the tiny hole on the side of the drive. So I turned off the laptop & tried this and opened the drive easily. But the problem is I cannot get it to close!! I tried the normal way of sliding it back in until u can hear the click of it being closed, but it just clicks and never locks in place.

I have done some thinking and figured that my laptop has stopped checking for hardware changes. so it can't READ that the drive is OPEN

Example: In Device Manager, there is a option called "Scan for Hardware changes", when I select this option usually I hear the drive make a sound (like when u insert a CD in the drive, there is a sound u can hear from inside like the system has detected the CD, u can also hear this sound when booting up the laptop[not sure how to explain this properly, i hope someone understands this part])

But lately during booting or whenever I select that scan option in Device Manager, I don't hear anything, like the drive is completely unresponsive to any commands. (However, the tiny light on the drive does blink on booting the system)

It could be the reason that it won't close, however I'm not entirely sure [i'ts just a theory]

The drive has been open for the past 2 days. So if anyone knows how to to fix this I'll appreciate the help.

Thanks in advance! :)
