Installing new Windows 2019 domain controller servers in one domain running Windows 2008 R2 and one running Windows 2012 R2.

Hi friends,

We will install new servers running Windows 2019 in two separate environments.

We cannot have DNS IP reconfiguration impacts;

Both domains have only servers running Windows 2008 R2 and another domain running Windows 2012 R2.

NOTE: I know that when the domain is Windows 2008 it is necessary to perform procedure to convert NFRS to DFS.

1) Is the procedure for adding a new domain controller the same for both scenarios?

- Install new DC server with Windows 2019;
- Insert the server in the domain;
- Install ADDS function;
- Add new domain controller to existing domain;
- Validate if GPO and SYSVOL replication succeeded;
- Migrate FSMO to the new server;
- Demote the old server;
- Add old server IP on new server;
- Raise the functional level in both domains for Windows 2019.

2) Is it really necessary to execute these commands?

I have read on some blogs guidelines for running command from (adprep.exe / forestprep, adprep.exe / domainprep and adprep.exe / domainprep / gpprep).

3) Do I need to worry about workstations?

4) Do I need to worry about GPOs? Do some kind of conversion?

5) If my domain controller is also DHCP. Can I use netsh dhcp to export to both Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 2012 version?

6) Can I install the DHCP service on the new server with a temporary IP, which is now a new domain controller running Windows 2019, importing the settings from the old DHCP server and adding the old DHCP server IP will everything work without problems?

7) Is there any other concern I need to have?

Thanks.
