upgrading from Server 2008 R2 to Server 2012 R2

Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my server OS from Server 2008 R2 to Server 2012 R2. This server (2008 R2) is also my Secondary Domain Controller.

Can I just run the server 2012 R2 installer and select the upgrade option to run the upgrade or will I need to do an AD and Forest prep before doing so?

Any instructions or how to do this would be greatly appreciated.
