This computer originally was working fine. But then it started getting weird symptoms. Colored lines would come across the browser, YouTube videos would pixelate, the browser would crash. I thought perhaps it was a video driver issue, so I installed a new driver. Still, the symptoms persisted to the point that the browser crashed more often than worked. So I tried using Microsoft's Edge. Still the same problem. I tried Firefox. And still the same. Eventually, Windows 10 crashed completely and when it went into the automatic repair, it failed to complete that, i.e. BSOD.
I decided to start fresh. I formatted the hard drive and did a clean install of Windows 10. Immediately, I received Windows could not configure one or more system components. To install Windows, restart the computer and then restart the installation." Found a workaround, got Windows to install and was finally able to log in (after the defaultuser0 mess). Again, problem after problem.
I have all the drivers I need, but I can't get into Device Manager (MMC.exe was blocked). So I've had to run CMD, right click to run as administrator and then type mmc.exe so I can add Device Manager to the console. Seriously? This shouldn't be. And every time I do that, I have to reload the console I saved (that currently has device manager, disk management, services and a few other things I threw on there). Any way, I have multiple areas that need updated drivers: SM Bus, memory controller, PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller, not to mention the video driver is a generic one. I HAVE those drivers. But device manager won't let them update. Ugh.
Every time I try to update a driver I get:
"Illegal operation attempted on a registry key"
By the way, Windows Update feature won't work either. Neither will the troubleshooter (it just says "a problem occurred"). I have reset this PC, I've reinstalled Windows 10, I've formatted the hard drive and attempted this all over again. All I've succeeded in doing is massively wasting my time. I just can't understand why a fresh install would come with so many problems. I mean, one right after another. Is it too much to ask to just install and work the first time??!
