Have an ISO downloaded from Volume Licensing site. Mount the ISO on a remote Windows Server 2008 R2 server, run setup.exe. Starts out with the 'Setup is copying files', then 'Setup is starting'. Then it presents the OS choices of Server 2012 R2 Standard Core, with GUI, Server 2012 R2 DataCenter core, and with GUI. After choosing Server 2012 R2 Standard with GUI I get the License Agreement screen and after accepting it goes straight to 'Installing Windows' Your computer will restart several times. This might take awhile and 'Copying Windows files (0%)'.
This same ISO mounted on an in-house Server 2008 R2 server, also connected via RDP, will give the 'What type of installation do you want' screen after accepting the license agreement.
Seems there's something about the first remote server that makes setup.exe think it is not upgradable. It has the MAK Product Key assigned from the MS Volume Licensing site for Server 2008 R2 Standard.
Any ideas what would prevent the upgrade option from appearing?
