Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Protocol

My husbands internet kept giving a "No Internet secured" error message. I followed the instructions on how to fix this, but found that the only way I could get him back on line was to check "Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Protocol". Is it ok to leave this checked or should I try something else?
