Where is the real Windows 8.1 Upgrade Assistant?

I want to upgrade from Windows to Windows 8.1.

Before upgrading I want to insure the Upgrade will work on my PC.

I down line loaded what I believed to be the Assistant.

It was filled with Ads and eventually said I needed to be connected to the Internet.

Will someone guide me to the Microsoft Download Link for the Assistant?
