Recreate Hyper-V virtual machine from just virtual HDD

Server 2016 Hyper-V host.

In the event the host needs reloaded, I can recreate a virtual machine using an existing virtual HDD just fine, even if the virtual HDD was running Exchange? The vm will be shutdown first.
