Two days ago on the 13th of February the update KB4532693 installed itself. As soon as it installed I noticed problems with my HP 17 AK series laptop. First of all the fans started going mad so I looked at processes in the Task Manager and several processes were in the red, most notably Microsoft Edge. Even after closing Edge the fans were still going mad, the laptop was slow and the screen kept sticking for short periods. Knowing Windows updates cause problems (I uninstalled and skipped the 1903 update entirely) I went straight to Installed Updates and deleted the KB4532693 update and turned the laptop off and on again. No problems..... until the 14th of February when the update reinstalled itself. Again the fans were going mad, this time when I went to delete the update in Installed Updates it would not let me delete it. So I did a System Restore to the 12th of February, before the offending update was initially installed. All was working well until I checked Start Menu > Settings > Update and Security to check the system restore had indeed removed the KB4532693 update. As soon as Update and Security opened it closed again. After several attempts it kept doing it. I got around Update and Security not opening by typing "installed updates" in the search box. And low and behold,
it's back.... I've just run an DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth in command prompt (admin) but this has made no difference. The KB4532693 is not compatible with v.1909 running on my laptop. I've also just read that this update has damaged a lot of HP computers with AMD chips, as mine has.
Is it not time that Microsoft stopped breaking peoples computers and wasting customers time with the unnecessary unsolicited system "updates"? Obviously security updates are necessary but virtually no one wants system updates, they're just too damaging. As is, I'm currently attempting to uninstall update KB4532693. But as I cannot open Update and Security I have no way of delaying or stopping it from reinstalling itself! This is unacceptable! I appreciate any help anyone can offer in relation to this conundrum.
Update - The problem seemed to be that I was still connected to the internet when uninstalling KB4532693. I did it while not connected and it appears to have gone being replaced by update KB4528760
As I was not connected to the internet this "update" cannot have been downloaded and installed while I was deleting KB4532693. I've switched the laptop off and on again (no internet) and Update and Security now opens and stays open. The first thing I did was pause all updates for seven days.
I've obviously had to reconnect to the internet to post this, and the fan is currently going slightly faster than usual. But at least Update and Security now appears to be working. I will put up with the fan going too fast for 7 days when hopefully Microsoft have either fixed update KB4532693 or junked it (how about junking mandatory unnecessary system "updates entirely?).
