Is it still possible to activate Windows XP? (Feb 2020)

Hey everyone. Sorry for what might seem like a stupid question. I am currently studying Systems Administration and Network Security, and have recently taken an interest in penetration testing. One of my classmates told me that the way he started was by trying to break into an old XP box, and suggested I do the same. I do remember XP with some fondness, and was wondering if the activation servers are still up, since I don't want to have to reinstall every 30 days when the "trial" period ends. I do have (somehow) an XP SP3 disk lying around, and finding vintage hardware to install it on is extremely easy in my area. My only question is this: Will MS still allow me to activate my copy? As I said, it is for research purposes and possibly some vintage gaming as well.
