researching dump files how to

Hello, i need some assistance in properly researching dump files, i know where they are located %systemroot% however i have never been able to properly locate the dump file in C:\windows or system 32 and how to run the Windbg tool to do so

do i have to install the windows sdk on the server. server 2016 stand alone.


please help need some baby steps with this process.
