Ethernet On Windows ME

I have Windows ME on another computer in my home and I also have an ethernet
connection through cable. I have a cable running from the router into the
other computer. I try to run Internet Explorer and it says that there is not
connection. I don't have dial-up connection so that won't work. How do I make
it so the internet will work on that computer? I really need you help. Thanks.

Please describe exactly how each PC is connected to each other and also to
the router.

Ideally each PC should have its own ethernet (wired or wireless) to the
router since this means that each can operate independently of the other.
Alternatively one PC can be connected to the router and the two PCs joined
with a cross-over cable. In the latter case the PC that connects to the
router will need to enable Internet Connection Sharing for the second PC
to be able to access the router and thence the internet via the first PC.
Note that this second method requires the PC connected to the router to be
on at all times the second PC needs to access the internet.
