When attempting to restore client files from a Windows Server Essentials 2016 backup the restore 'appears' to start to work (i.e. it proceeds thru choosing backup, choosing volume and even proceeds to 'opening the volume'). However, it eventually fails with a 'restore process did not succeed, the system cannot find the path specified'. At the same time, I get an additional window that pops up that asks me to 'format the disk in drive D:'. Normally the D: drive is unoccupied. Just to test whether it requires something in D:, I tried assigning a drive to D: and reran the process. Same process occurs, but it 'jumps' to another unoccupied slot (I. I'm not sure exactly why it's doing this.
Fortunately, I am able to go to another computer on the network and pull down the same backup and restore files as needed (thru multiple steps), so it's not a major issue. However, I'm really puzzled why I'm getting this odd behavior on this machine, which technically owns the initial backups in the first place (which are coming from a C: drive).
Any help from anyone that's seen/solved this type of issue would be much appreciated.
Note: While I don't think it makes a difference, I will say that the client computer is Windows 7. HOWEVER, this has been an issue since I first setup my WSE 2016 server over 2 years ago (when win7 was still supported).
