Remote desktop to access to application

We have installed a CRM and access via internet via VPN is very slow. They tell us that to solve it we have to do it through the remote desktop or similar (citrix, etc). Our server is a 2016 standard. What do I need to install remote desktop and what features to choose when installing it to be as optimal and safe as possible for what we want?


By the way my computer is not a domain controller. It is in a work group, no is it a dns server, it only serves files.
