Hello,
I am re-installing a computer running win7 pro which was in failure just at starting windows (in any mode and no driver known), this problem is still not solved, but I come here today with another problem on the same computer (An ASUS G73SW - 2630QM and 16Go).
To verify that there was no hardware problem and to run the minimum which is absolutely necessary to get back data, I decide not to go on trying to repair but :
- to change the disk
- install new windows7 pro
and after, install VirtualPC to run XP SP3 virtual computer stored into a VHD file (running before on the same computer before the current windows have crashed and that I could not repair, two years ago. quite the same problem crash at start and restorations failure).
The installation has been successful and after I have loaded all the drivers from ASUS.
I have restarted several times.
I installed several basic software and have to restart again after installing the lan driver. I don't care and have not created a restore point at each restart, may be the security is to create a restore point and restart after each driver installation even coming from the constructor reference - ASUS.
Then I got a BSOD on ndis.sys.
I have no minidump (empty dir while I can see that the dump is fully executed).
No error on check on system start (detailed report on start failure).
The error on the BSOD page captured with a video camera at 50i/s (there is nowhere other information) id type : 1D and I have the address
The error comes probably from the lan driver (found similar messages on forum and the safe mode without network starts) not completely installed (the restart was asked by the lan driver)
I would reach the advanced start options (F8), but the crash occurs before.
The problem is that because Windows cannot run in normal mode it is impossible to repair the drivers, the protected mode do not allow to install or uninstall.
This seems to mean a loop on the error and windows complete system death with all the softs (impossible to get back the licenses).
Note that all of this is because I need to get back old data by running XP SP3 from my VHD file with Windows 7pro,( last system able to run XP SP3 stored into a VHD file - Hyper-V doesn't supports XP even sp3). Note that during the install operations I could not install correctly VirtualPC (the current download from MS doesn't install anything (after installation the soft only open explorer for virtual computers, there is no control panel). This fails also.
Note that I have more than thirty years of experience in development and computers use. Never got such a crazy situation and spent 60 hours in one week without any result.
Can you help me ?
Best regards
Trebly
