I have an old Compaq laptop with windows me installed. I would like to be
able to
run some very simple scheduling programs from an internet site using a
wireless card and service. Will ME support that process?

You should be able to add a wireless card to your laptop. Ensure that you
obtain one that includes Win Me compatible drivers. The card can either
be PCMCIA/CARDBUS (if your laptop has such a slot) or usb.

If it's USB, when mixing older and newer gear, pay close attention
to whether a new USB 2.0 gadget and drivers will work with
USB 1.0 ports on the old Compaq. Some will work with ME
but not USB 1.0 ports in an older machine.

Therefore it might be worth considering a PCMCIA - 4 port USB 2.0 card in
conjunction with a USB 2.0 WiFi stick, to maximise both the economic outlay
with the USB 2.0 efficiency - and have a couple of spare USB 2.0 ports
available as a bonus. Works a treat here, with my 10 year old Toshiba
(single USB 1.0 port) laptop running WinMe.
