Here are some possible fixes:

1. Go to Control Panel. If Tweak UI is present, double click it. On
the Desktop tab, put a check mark in the Network Neighborhood box,
click Apply and OK.

2. Go to Control Panel > Network. Remove Client for Microsoft
Networks if it's present. Then add Client for Microsoft Networks.
Reboot.

3. Run the registry editor and open this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

If the value named "NoNetHood" is present, remove it and reboot.

Fred:

- Open Windows Explorer (Windows key + E).

- In the left pane scroll down to the "Network Neighborhood" (or
whatever the network has been named) entry in the tree display and
expand the entry by clicking on the " + " next to it

- Click on the "Entire Network" entry that appears

- In the RIGHT pane the networks that Windows knows about will be
displayed. Usually this is named "Workgroup" or "MSHome" or the name
that was entered when the network was set up.

- RIGHT click on the network's name in the listing in the RIGHT pane
and choose "Create Shortcut" from the menu that pops up.

You will then get a message stating that a shortcut will be placed on
the desktop.
