Log on problems XP

Need help from knowledgeable guru, have purchased laptop over net but it has
a password for log- on which I cannot get past. Is there a way without
buying new operating system, do not have original disks! Am hoping there
may be a way through dos to access password file, but is it encrypted
anyway? Would value any help enormously. Op system is XP, thanking you all
in antisipation, yours simon.

By the way, this is a Windows ME help group. You should post to one of
the Windows XP groups for help with XP problems.
