External hard drive - problems ripping CDs

Hi, I bought a DVD external drive for ripping CDs onto my windows media player. I tried it out when I first bought it and it worked fine. Now though, only a couple of weeks later, it keeps saying it can't rip one or more tracks from the 3 CDs I've tried so far. Can anyone help?
