Send custom HTTP-GET REFERER

Is it possible? And if, how would be the best way to do it on the client's side?
Is it possible to do this via JavaScript? I'm curious, because I don't want to use reverse proxy capabilities by the server, in order to do it, because that would cause the server to double load the file.
