Upgrgrading windows 98 Second Editon to XP

Joe

I have an HP Pavilion desktop that came with Windows 98 Second Edition. I
had upgraded to XP about two years ago. About one month ago my system kept
restarting by itself. I installed my system recovery disks to reformat my
hard drive. After re formating my hard drive, my copy of XP will not
download. I keep on getting error messages that the program has performed and
illegal operation and will be shut down, or missing dll. Any suggestions?

Windows XP will not /install/? Did you run any hardware diagnostics before
you formatted the HDD?
