I tried copying and pasting it to my desktop and it seemingly copied -
at least an icon for the program appeared. But it was really slow
(again, this is a 536k file). Eventually, I got a Windows error
saying that "an i/o device error" prevented the file from copying. I
was able to delete from my desktop the copied file.

I used 7-zip (a freeware winzip compatible) and tried to compress the
msnmusic.exe file. It got to about the 35% mark and just bogged down
(again, for a 536k file, the zip should have been near instantaneous).
Finally, a message saying "the request could not be performed because
of an i/o device error." This was a message from 7-zip.

When I doubleclicked on the msnmusic.exe file in hopes of launching
it, things just hung for a while, but then my system seemingly
returned to normal.

So what do I do now? Does XP have some way of detecting the corrupted
file sector links you mention? Is this a media error or an error in
the file/folder structure of my computer?
