Any known issue with one-way external trust 2008R2 functional level -> 2016 functional level?

We have an established one-way external trust (NTLM) from a 2008R2 functional level domain to a 2008R2 functional level domain. The trusted domain is planning to implement all Windows 2016 servers and raise the domain functional level to 2016. Is there any known issue with this? I could not find any direct documentation that gives some indication that this is definitely supported. I also didn't find anything that suggested there is a problem with this either.
