Cannot open folders; only get "No items match your search"

Help! I ran a "Search" function in Microsoft Word (2007) on my computer to look for a particular word (and didn't find it), but now Word still thinks I'm searching, and will not allow me to open any of my MS Word folders. When I try to open any MS Word folder, it just says "No items match your search." I tried restarting, to no avail. How the heck do I TURN OFF that search function and get back to normal?
