I have been trying to upgrade a couple of Windows 2008 Servers running on VMWARE platform to 2k12 R2.. During the first couple minutes loading the 2k12 installation program first two screens, I received an immediate prompt asking for a License Key from the w2k12 install app. Usually the license ley is not needed until after the install. I tried all the keys available for 2k12 R2 supporting MAK volume licenses. , and keys for VMS. None of them worked. Received the "We could not Verify Product Key" error although internet was available, No firewall enabled. Nothing worked, even purposely typing in wrong Key -- same error. Not sure how to work around or resolve this
