I cannot install Windows Defender Platform update KB4052623 and another package KB2267602. After downloading, I get the error 0x80070643.
I tried everything from THIS thread, as well as all the common techniques (restart etc). I tried wureset from wureset.com, and also the Windows Update MiniTool. I tried downloading KB4052623 from the Microsoft Update Catalog, and since it gives no indication about which of the 3 files is suitable for me, I tried all three. One said it is not for my platform, the other two did not do anything.
After starting Windows, 3 out of the 4 Windows Defender services are running. "Sense" is not running, and I cannot start it. In the Services manager, I can see that the WdNisSvc and Sense are set to Manual, and I cannot change them (even with Administrator rights). Then after a few minutes (or if I try to install the Platform update) both WdNisSvc and WinDefend processes stop, and the Windows Defender icon gives a red cross. It is impossible to restart, clicking on the button does nothing.
What's the most interesting is that I have the same problem on a laptop and a PC. I installed Win10 on them 1-2 months ago, and they all started doing this after a few weeks. The Windows Defender "sample" updates install just fine, only the platform updates fail. I checked and the "Platform" folder is EMPTY on both computers (I heard people complaining about 50GB of files there, mine has none).
What's the ideal setting for those 4 services and how can I change them? How can I manually install these updates? How can I repair just the installation of Windows Defender and not the whole OS?
