Windows10 Fails to Complete Install on New Hard Drive

Recently the HD on my Lenovo Thinkcenter Edge 71/1578 desktop died. I bought a replacement new hard drive and, following the directions on the MS site, created a USB with an installation of Windows10 1909.

The installation beings just fine; I select Windows10 pro [which was what was on the broken HD], I choose the partition to install, Windows does its formatting, file copy and configure thing and then goes for a restart. [The boot sequence is HD, Optical, USB.]

The restart basically reads the USB again and starts the installation process all over. I tested the idea that if I removed the USB stick before it restarted while the PC was doing its BIOS thing, that that might be the problem. Nope. All that happens is that I get a black screen with a blinking white cursor.

By using the command line [which I get to through the installer's troubleshooting option] I am able to see that the install is creating directories and installing files.

I'm not sure what may have gone wrong or what I have done wrong, but am currently dead in the water. Guidance would be most welcome.

Thank you very much,

Bill Cole
