"Memory could not be Read" error using Windows XP Home

I own a VERY old Embroidery machine (White 4400) - the machine still works independently, but it is useless since I can no longer send it any designs from my computer. The original manufacturer was absorbed by another company and they are not investing in updating the drivers that work with the machine – the latest software it would work with is Windows XP.

I own a Dell computer – (Mobile Intel (R ) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz 1.59GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM) with Windows XP Home software – this computer used to work well with the Embroidery Machine. I’ll admit, I stopped using it for some time and when I tried again recently, it won’t connect to the machine and I get the same error message every time when I try to transfer a design to the Embroidery Machine…(at least the error is consistent!) I'm not aware of any updates / changes made to the computer -

The operating system is Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 – Service Pack 3…. One of the things I did to try to fix the problem was to install all service updates that had not been done that were related to XP – I did this, installed them all, rebooted, and the error still exists…

I receive the following error every time I attempt to transfer an embroidery design from my computer to my White 4400 Embroidery Machine:

White Navigator Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.

Please tell Microsoft about this problem. We have created an error report that you can send to s. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous.

The pop-up below then showed up:

The instruction at “0x73dd11a3” referenced memory at “0x00000004”. The memory could not be “read”. Click on OK to terminate the program.

I tried to send a report – it may have been sent to Microsoft?

My computer is currently connected to the internet with an ethernet cable connected to my modem. I rarely connect this computer to connect to the internet (I have other computers that I use for that purpose)…. I will admit (this may be my own lack of knowledge), I struggle so much with internet searches on old Operating Systems…. I get error messages every time I attempt a search!!! I receive MANY certificate error problems. I get error messages constantly that state that I can’t reach a site – when I run the diagnostic, I ultimately get the following message:

Windows cannot connect to the internet using HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP. This is probably caused by firewall settings on this computer.

Check the firewall settings for the HTTP port (80), HTTPS port (443) and FTP port (21).

You might need to contact your internet service provider (ISP) or the manufacturer of your firewall software.

I have no idea what this means, but I doubt it is related to the error I receive related to the “memory could not be read” issue…I tried uninstalling any antivirus software to address the possible firewall issue (that also presented problems – I couldn’t entirely uninstall Norton Internet Security – When I tried downloading software “Norton Remove and Restore”, I get a message stating the file is corrupt (no luck there either!))

I just want this computer to work again with my embroidery machine. I should note that I have another Dell computer (same model and operating system) that gives me the exact error message at the exact part of the program… I also have a Windows 7 computer – I have read that the driver for the Embroidery machine MIGHT work with Windows 7 if the program is run n Compatibility Mode – this didn’t work either…

Any suggestions?
