Subject: IE7, OR?? Is there anyone there that can help? :-/

A

AWA

Hello. Recently it appears maybe my Internet Explorer 7 Browser has been
having issues - or maybe it is my computer and something within. In any case,
I am confused.

Funky things are happening when I go to websites now - for example,
www.littletikes.com - the page completes loading, but nothing shows up on my
screen for a good 10-15 seconds. Also, at that site, I cannot "save target
as" say on a .pdf document - or even read the document in my browser. What
happens is my browser simply disappears. I asked a friend to go to that site
and download the .pdf file for me (to see if it was the site or not) and he
had no problems. I am having problems at other websites also - strange errors
and such.

It is really bothering me because I am very knowledgeable in computers,
etc., but I can not figure out if it is a BHO, or what. I started my IE
without add ons, and the .pdf file DID load inside the browser, but not
without errors. I still could not save target as though.

In any case, what I really want is someone who can actually read and
understand my hijackthis log file and tell me exactly what I should remove,
if anything. Whenever there is a "missing file" I would think that I should
delete that entry, no? Also, I can not make heads or tails of some of the
other stuff I am seeing in there either - maybe there is SOMEONE out there
that can shed some light for me?

I am running WindowsXP Media Edition SP2, Sony Vaio Desktop, 2GB RAM, IE7

I have already cleared out all the usuals - cache, temp folders, prefetch.
Even tried removing BHO's one by one to diagnose if there was a bad add-on,
etc.

Please view my log and let me know what you think???!!??
Also, why do I have TWO entries of HiJackThis in my add/remove programs? If
I uninstall 1 of them, I am left with 0 of them. If I reinstall, I get 2
entries back again. WEIRD, eh?

Also, I have run 2 spyware scans (using 2 different programs) and ran a full
system scan with Norton (all updated DATS) - Nothing! Zero!

I'll shut-up now - here is my log:

You are very clearly and consisely told by HiJackThis
where to post logs TO and where NOT to post them to!
This is NOT one of the places!! You may think you're
knolwedgeable about computers, but you're missing a
VERY large amount of reading ability and/or
comprehension of what you read. Why don't you either
reat that stuff, or better yet go to the HJT web site?

Try to isolate the problem. I.E. Remove a few start-up items at a time until
it is problem free. Start with the virus programs.
Symantec items cause all kinds of problems.

We do not interpret HijackThis logs in public newsgroups.

That being said, I don't see anything untoward in your log (other than the
fact that you used an outdated version of HijackThis).

1. Does this behavior persist if you start IE7 in No Add-ons mode? To start
IE7 in No Add-ons mode:

Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons or

Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No
add-ons).

Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode:
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx

2. Does the problem persist if you Reset IE7 Settings (RIES)?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 <= Read before using!

3. If you uninstall (a) IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6), (b)
all toolbars and (c) all third-party Windows Themes (including Window
Blinds) and do NOT reinstall IE7, does this behavior persist? If it does,
do NOT reinstall IE7.

Uninstalling IE7
http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html

How to uninstall Internet Explorer 7:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927177

IE7 (Un)Installation and Anti-Malware Applications:
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/10/11/IE7-Installation-and-Anti_2D00_Malware-Applications.aspx

4. Required reading IMHO before reinstalling IE7:

Sandi's Installation Tips <= FOLLOW THESE TIPS TO THE LETTER!
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install

[And I strongly recommend using
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx as the
installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update.]

Make *certain* that you check in at Windows Update immediately after
reinstalling IE7 to install any critical updates offered. If Optional
Updates category offers Root Certificates update, I recommend installing it
to take full advantage of IE7's additional security.

Clearly and consisely? Not even close. I thought you may have been referring
to another discussion here on the microsoft newsgroups. You weren't very
clear, or concise. I think you may be missing a VERY large amount of spelling
and/or comprehension ability.

Is there any way you could go to the HJT website and voice your opinions
there?

Thanks for (attempting) to read my post.

to another discussion here on the microsoft newsgroups. You weren't very
clear, or concise. I think you may be missing a VERY large amount of spelling
and/or comprehansion ability.

Is there any way you could go to the HJT website and voice your opinions
there?

Thanks for (attempting) to read my post.
