I want a good anti-virus software for Windows 7. AT&T said I had to update for theirs (free with my package). any ideas?

I have free anti-virus protection thru AT&T (McAfee) but we couldn't get it to work, was told because I have Windows 7. Agent said I need to update my operating system. Is this true? I really am quite happy with Windows 7 right now for the time being and my PC works just fine!
