Can I use a Windows Server 2012 licence key for activate to Windows Server 2016?

I have 1 server insall a windows server 2012 has been activated license, and I want to upgrade to windows server 2016, but when I upgrade to windows server 2016 I need to enter a licence key, I can not use windows server 2012 for acctive windows 2016.
