DDE aplication stopped working after upgradinf Server 2012 to Server 2016

Hi,

I have a Server 2012 the runs a retired application that runs an application with LPR cameras.

After upgrading the Server to 2016 , The Data appliction does not initiate comunication with the LPR application.

I get an error of faied comunicatio error that points to the Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE).

My questions are:

1. Is there a way to activate DDE (I read that Microsoft discontinued this protocol due to security issues)

2. is there a third party that can replace DDE ?
