In Windows Mail?
There's a bar that should run at the top of the contacts window. It offers
choices, such as, from left, Organize, Views, New Contact, New Contact
Group, Import, Export.

Do you see that? The New Contact button, obviously, is the one you want.

The process I just described I did through Windows Mail.
But if you type "contacts" in the search line in the start window, just
click on Windows Contacts after that and you'll get the same thing.

Well, OK, maybe in your Windows Mail, but that was not what I found. I get
saw: Organise Views and Burn. If I wanted to add a new contact, I have to
find find a space that does not highlight an existing contact in which to
right click, select 'New', followed by Contact' - it is a real pain.

That said, what you posted sent me on a hunt (the reason for the past tense
above), and what I found may help the original question. I right-clicked in
that same blank spot as above, but instead selected 'Customise this
folder...'. I then changed the folder template from its existing 'All items'
to 'Contacts', and presto, I got the toolbar you talked about. Then, to get
rid of that utterly horrid preview pane, selected from the Toolbar
'Organise', then 'Layout', then deselected 'Preview Pane'.

Aaaahhhh!!!! Better....

Contacts frequently loses its folder customizations.

right click in a blank area of the folder display, select Properties, Customize and then select CONTACTS from the drop down list.
APPLY and OK to get out

Thank for the help. Due to your advice I went back to my toolbar which showed
FILE EDIT VIEW TOOLS HELP. What I found was highlight FILE then Click NEW and
then you see the word CONTACT click on contact then you are ready to enter a
new Name and address.

Again Thank you
