Thunderbolt connection issues

I recently received this error message out of the blue: "Thunderbolt device functionality might be limited". I have had an Akitio Node eGPU (GTX 1660ti) connected via thunderbolt to my laptop for some time now. I did not change the cord. I did not update anything.


After receiving this error message, and based off research online, I updated Windows, updated my graphics card driver, deleted thunderbolt software and reinstalled (from the official dell support page, which after a scan says all my drivers are up to date), updated BIOS, and STILL this error persists. In fact, after doing these steps, the error message itself glitches out and flashes away, instead of remaining in place as it originally did.
