Dual boot installation/activation

P

Pete

I had a dual boot machine with XP Pro and Vista Ultimate on it.
Unfortunately due to hardware failure etc the XP installation was damaged
and I had to reinstall. Now I cannot access Vista (on a seperate partition
on the hard disk) as the option to select the OS to boot into has gone.

Is there a way to put this right without reinstalling Vista? I don't want
to reinstall if it can be helped as I am worried that I will not be allowed
to activate Vista again.

Using your Vista install DVD, run startup repair.

When I run the install DVD I can only "Check Compatibility" or "Install
Now" - I don't know how to run startup repair. I have looked at the folders
on the DVD but can't see anything about repair on there either.

Have you tried booting from the vista DVD instead of unning it from
inside of vista?

I am not running the Vista DVD from inside of Vista (can't boot Vista!) but
from XP.

If you can't figure out how to do it, then download and install either
EasyBCD or VistaBootPro. Go to the manage bootloader section and do a
reinstall the Vista Bootloader.

Sorry Pete, my mistake. Regardless though, it should work if you boot
from the Vista DVD.
