Show me the total size of more than 15 files by default

I'm trying to back up a bunch of files on my Windows 7 computer to dvds.
The problem is that when I select more than 15 files, Windows 7 stops showing me the total size of the selected files and makes me click on "show more details" every time I add another file to see if that will put me over the 4.35 size for the DVD.
How do I fix it so that it always shows me the total size so I can simplify figuring how how to minimize the number of DVDs needed?

XP doesn't have this problem, and 10 doesn't seem to have this problem. Somebody told me there was a simple registry edit, but I'll be darned if I can find it.

No, I don't want to know that I can "just click on details" every time I add another file to the selection, nor do I want to right-click and select "properties" every time I add another file to the selection to see if it puts me over the 4.35mb limit for a DVD, especially when I'm trying to figure out the last file to mix & match to fit the most data on each disk. It's only 12.5gb, it should fit on 3 DVDs, but this not showing the file size is AGGRAVATING.

No, I don't want to go buy a 16gb flash drive.

Yes, I just want an answer to the question asked, not other possibilities that don't involve getting the files on the DVDs. Sorry, bad experience on this forum with people telling me I don't really want to do it that way when I could spend money I don't have on a solution. Making me select "more details" every time I select another file is causing anxiety in this user.
