A
Ant Dude
After powering on my decade old PC this morning, I noticed my updated 64-bit W7
HPE SP1's desktop icons (my own custom like folders and shortcuts, and
Recycle Bin) were missing. I tried my other old Windows account
(standard and guest), and they showed their desktop icons. Desktop Icon
Settings even showed my Recycle Bin checked. I unchecked and rechecked,
and it came back. However, it was still missing my custom folders and
shortcut icons.
So, I opened up cmd.exe to c:\Users\myusername\Desktop and saw my old
folders and *.lnk shortcut files. Odd/Weird!! So I tried making a new
text file and folder/directory, and they showed up. I moved my old
folders and files into the new shown folder and then they showed up
inside. So I moved them back to Desktop and now I see them.
What happened? I also ran chkdsk and quick SMART tests to be sure my old
HDD was OK. They passed.
Thank you for reading and hopefully answering.
