Windows XP Pro: Product Key Activation Inquiry

Forced to reinstall Windows XP Pro following a computer drive failure. This vintage OS is required in order to run a legacy POS system; however, upon attempting to activate over the internet, or via live phone line, the software is unable to activate (both the online and live systems state that the Installation ID is invalid, even though we have the original CD and product key). Please advise.
