How to toggle file associations

J

Jeepwolf

I had a program to play .FLV files. Now I just installed another one
that has more options. Both work. Sometimes I'd like to use one,
sometimes the other one. The problem is that the new one adopted the
file associations from the old one. So now I'm stuck with only the
new one. Is there a way to toggle the file associations on the fly?

Thanks

Just right click and select "open with"

you may also have to hit the "shift" key to get that option

I'm assuming you're using Win98se?
I do not have the option "open with" when I right click. ????
I have "open" that uses the default viewer (set in the associations).
There is a "send to" option, but it does not contain much of anything
except the drive letters, the "my documents folder", and my email
program. Pressing the shift key does nothing.

Left click on the file once to highlight it.
Press/hold down the Shift key + Right click.

You should now see "Open with" in the popup menu.

Just to reinforce what Brian stated (or in case you don't see his reply), you must
first single left-click the file to highlight it, THEN hold the Shift key while you
right-click the highlighted file. That will add the "Open With..." menu item to the
context menu.
