Transferring pictures from my Iphone XR

I have been trying to transfer my pictures from my Iphone and some of the pictures cannot upload properly. Either they are not recognized or some "live photos are coming out in multiple slides. The error message i get is about needing a Codec or missing codec in order to read the file? Can you tell me how to transfer my pictures as jpegs to my laptop? This doe not happen with my Dell Laptop. thx.
