Please outline steps to retrieve pics from Samsung Galaxy III android phone to my computer using Windows method and back up with Google.
I'm just lost after several days trying to transfer pictures to my laptop from Galaxy III phone, In past I've used Picasa for years with no issue ever...use my cable...it brings up my phone...and downloads. About a week ago tried this and it doesn't work. Tried over and over. I know Picasa is no longer supported but I had read couple of years ago I should keep a copy of the .exe file and would be able to install it on a new computer. The copy attempts I've done the past week are on the original computer.
Called Samsung. Told the simplest way is to back up pictures to Google from the phone then download to my computer. Went in to Google and tried to do whatever they said. Got an on screen notice that something would be added to my phone. But after doing that...I brought up whatever app on the phone and couldn't find a way to tell it to do anything. I've downloaded two software programs that would recognize all the pictures on the phone but when it got to the upload they say some type of technical error.
Called AT&T then who has my phone service. They said simplest just to use Windows. Windows recognizes the phone when I select PC.....but when I go into Camera it shows nothing there. I have 900 pictures on the phone!
One last question....I have pictures in One Drive that came from the phone...but it only copied 135 pictures. I don't know how to copy those pictures to get them over to an external hard drive. I'm confused about the difference between One Drive and Windows .......I don't use One Drive and only apparently tried it to get these pictures.

Would someone be kind enough to tell me the simplest way to extract pictures via Windows and the issue I'm having? Also, what am I doing wrong with Google? How do you initiate the back up?
Have 5 granddaughters and these pictures pretty important. Once I have retrieved the pictures I'm getting a more up to date phone.
