No access to MS fingerprint reader

I have an old XP computer that I had previously used MS fingerprint reader at one time. I have been loging onto the computer of and on without the fingerprint, but the last time I shut down the computer and rebooted, the reader access popped up and is now required to logon. I threw away the reader years ago, so now I cannot get into the computer without out it. I can't even open the CD tray. What can I do?
