XP won't install

Hi everyone! I have a laptop from 2007 with preinstalled Vista. I want to use it today and to get the maximum out of it, so I decided to install XP. But, when I set the primary booting device from HDD to USB MEMORY, nothing happens and it just loads Vista. Did you have the same problem? Can you help me? Thanks!
