The File or Folder Does Not Exist

This is driving me up the wall. I've seen other posts just the same but so
far no answers that work.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium and when I create a new folder on any of
my hard drives (I have three) and then try to rename it I get a pop up
stating "The File or Folder Does Not Exist" and the name then reverts to New
Folder.

I have checked my rights and I have full rights on all. Has anyone any idea
what is causing this. It only started 3/4 weeks ago but did not seem to
correspond with any alteration or new program.

HELP

You don't say HOW you are trying to rename it.
Right-click, Rename?

Mick, I am right clicking and choosing rename or double clicking to reach
rename. When I rename the pop up appears and the folder goes back to new
folder (1) (2) etc dependant on the number of new folders created.

Have you done a System Restore to a point before this started?

Only other thing I can think of is to try a "sfc /scannow" in a
elevated command prompt. It may repair the system files for you. See
here for details on how if needed.

I have done both a reset and a SFC and still no change. I know it's a setting
somewhere within Vista but I just cannot locate it. It's clear from other
posts that this has happened to others. How did they clear it?

Sorry 4472,

I'm at a stump. You might try a checkdisk for corruption.
If you need details on how, look here:
